When to post in Facebook groups (and why replying beats posting)
May 16, 2026 5 min read
What timing actually does for reach in groups, why the answer is different from Pages, and the case for spending your time in comments instead.
Short answer
Group feeds are ordered by recent activity, so a post's visibility depends far more on whether it attracts replies than on the hour it was published. If you sell services, timing your own posts matters much less than being early in the comments of other people's — which is where the buying requests are.

The 'best time to post' genre is one of the most confidently wrong things on the marketing internet, and it is wrong here because it was borrowed wholesale from Pages, where reach is distributed algorithmically to followers. Groups do not work like that. You can post at the theoretically perfect Tuesday 11am slot and vanish by noon, or post at 3am and stay at the top all day because two people argued in the comments.
Activity, not schedule
Most group members see a feed weighted towards posts with recent comments. A post published at a quiet hour that gets three replies outlives one published at peak that gets none.
Your posts are not the opportunity anyway
In most groups you are not allowed to post offers, and the buying requests come from members. That means your visibility comes from replying, and there the timing question becomes simple: as soon as possible after the post appears.
The one timing rule worth following
Reply while the post is still near the top. In an active group that window can be under an hour; in a quiet one it can be a day. Alerting is what makes this achievable without living in the feed.
Groups behave differently from Pages

|---|---|---|
| Distribution | Algorithmic, to followers | Weighted by recent activity |
| What extends reach | Engagement rate | New comments |
| Posting time | Matters | Matters much less |
| Your best move | Post at peak | Reply early to others |
Frequently asked questions
What is the best time to post in a Facebook group?
Timing matters less in groups than on Pages because group feeds are weighted by recent activity. A post that attracts replies stays visible regardless of when it was published.
Does posting more often help in Facebook groups?
Rarely, and in most groups promotional posting is against the rules. Replying usefully to other members' posts produces far more work than posting more.
How quickly should I reply to a post in a group?
While it is still near the top of the feed. In active groups that means minutes to an hour; being early is worth more than being the most detailed answer.
